Designers Saturday marks its 25th year anniversary in 2011. This will be celebrated in Oslo on September 3rd and 4th. Industry professionals and the broader public alike can look forward to exciting news from highly recognised Norwegian and international designers and manufacturers, who will be displaying the latest in furniture, textiles, lighting, flooring and kitchens. This is by no means a traditional exhibition. Instead, 37 showrooms dotted around the centre of Oslo will be opening their doors. We look forward to seeing you there!
A unique opportunity…
Designers Saturday is not an ordinary exhibition or trade fair; instead, a large number of free buses will be shuttling along between the 17 locations where the event takes place. Visitors can jump on and off the bus as they wish. A number of the participating exhibitors are usually only available to industry insiders, professional buyers, and interior designers. Those companies who have permanent showrooms along the bus route use every square inch to present the latest, most cutting edge and exciting news and invite those who don't have a permanent space to share it with them. Other exhibitors take a more opportunistic approach, using spaces such as garages and lifts to show off their goods. What they all have in common is a commitment to beautiful and useful designs, high-end finishing and superior quality.
Designers Saturday Awards
The board of Designers Saturday Oslo and the Norwegian Organisation of Interior Architects and Furniture Designers instigated Designers Saturday Awards in 2005: Best Interior and Student Project. The awards serve to heighten interest in interior architecture and give students and experienced professionals alike recognition for design excellence and quality. To mark the 25 years jubilee, Designers Saturday Oslo issues a special call this year to designers world-wide to submit their design proposals to Designers Saturday Awards: Unlimited Design. Designers Saturday Oslo: who and how
The Designers Saturday idea was dreamt up by enthusiastic industry insiders who brought the concept over from New York in 1986. Since then, Designers Saturday has been arranged every other year. Its success is largely due to the design professionals’ enthusiastic commitment to making this a great event and giving generously of their time and effort. In 2009 the event attracted nearly 10,000 visitors who were treated to 155 exhibitors who displayed their latest products in 38 showrooms across Oslo town centre. There are even more exhibitors and more enthusiasm for this anniversary event; this year’s showrooms and route through Oslo will soon be presented.
