Walter Knoll is an international icon and one of the few furniture manufacturers in the world with an unbroken heritage dating back to 1865. Six generations later, the company is not only Germany’s oldest furniture brand, but also a contemporary design house known for outstanding craftsmanship, clean lines, and uncompromising quality.

The story began when Wilhelm Knoll opened a small leather goods shop in Stuttgart. When his sons Willy and Walter took over in 1907, they laid the foundation for what we now know as Walter Knoll – a brand that early on began experimenting with upholstered furniture in new forms and functions. By the 1940s, Walter Knoll had already become an ambassador for a new and modern way of living, firmly rooted in the Bauhaus tradition and the values of German design culture.

Over the decades, the brand has created a series of enduring furniture icons – many of which are still in production today – including the 369 sofa from 1965, the Bucket Seat from 1950, and the Berlin Chair from 1975. The collections combine architectural precision with tactile materials, inviting calm and refined spatial experiences.

Walter Knoll collaborates with a wide range of leading designers and architects, including Foster + Partners, Kengo Kuma, Paul Hahn, Claudio Bellini, and Ben van Berkel. Together, they have developed furniture pieces that define spaces across the world – from offices and hotels to private homes and public interiors – always with a quiet elegance that withstands both time and trends.
