About Matre

Matre is born from a passion for all things Norwegian, our cultural heritage and design traditions.

Our mission is to create unique and timeless furniture that transforms houses into homes and spaces into experiences. We are committed to being a conscious producer, with a focus on sustainability and craftsmanship in every piece.

By sharing the stories behind our designers and cultural history, we aim to foster a deeper connection to the furniture our customers choose. We believe this promotes long-lasting relationships and emotional value, which in turn helps reduce our environmental footprint.

About So Takahashi

So Takahashi is a multidisciplinary, Japanese-born designer and creative director based in Oslo. For more than 25 years his work has "floated between dimensions": a chair, a movie poster, an album and a shared meal are all part of the same exploration. Designing window displays for Shiseido's New York stores carried his work into three dimensions, through spaces and objects. Today his practice centers on experience design, with furniture at its heart as the point where people meet an experience directly.

His approach comes from a Japanese sensitivity to proportion, restraint and craft, refined by life in Norway and its respect for material, honesty and everyday use.

His Origami Chair, made of folded, powder-coated sheet metal, debuted at 100% Norway during London Design Festival in 2008. Dezeen featured it, and it was later shown in Hong Kong and Beijing. His Oslo Stool was part of Norwegian Presence in Milan in 2018. He collaborated with Snøhetta on the Løvetann House, and he is working with MATRE for DS Collab 2027 at Designers' Saturday.
