Dinesen presents SMULD — a collaborative exhibition exploring the future of natural materials in architecture.

Founded in 1898, Dinesen is Denmark’s leading manufacturer of exclusive wooden flooring. Now in its fifth generation, the company has evolved from a family-run sawmill into a globally recognised design brand. Rooted in craftsmanship, curiosity, and a deep respect for nature, Dinesen creates bespoke flooring in close dialogue with clients—from private homeowners to internationally acclaimed architects. While production remains in Denmark, Dinesen floors are found in homes, public buildings, and cultural spaces around the world.

At this year’s Designers’ Saturday, Dinesen presents SMULD—an architectural material installation created in collaboration with architect Office Kim Lenschow, designer Bonnie Hvillum of Natural Material Studio, and Anker & Co, who deliver the lighting solution. The installation showcases ongoing studies of biodegradable composite materials made from natural wood binders and sawdust from the Dinesen sawmill. Through an aesthetic and technological lens, SMULD extends Dinesen’s vision of using the entire tree trunk, opening new possibilities for sustainable architecture.

Anker & Co, known for their exceptional lighting solutions and timeless design approach, contributes to SMULD by illuminating the installation and highlighting Michael Anastassiades’s visionary work.

Together, the collaborators invite visitors to experience wood not just as a material, but as a living, evolving presence in design and architecture.
